Last of Autumn

Standard

We are enjoying the last bit of autumn before the winter begins.  The girls enjoyed climbing trees and exploring  places they found. They always enjoy the outdoors.

We are preparing for our winter trip to Canada as well.  They will finally get to experience proper snow.  They are very excited but as a result, lady P has resorted to tears a lot this week.  Hopefully, things will calm down once we get to Canada.

Enjoy nature! It’s a time when kids can be kids and we don’t have to stress about anything.  There is so little opportunity for them to have freedom nowadays because the world is unsafe!  But we can find safe spaces in nature and let them run free!

Home Education Camping Trip

Standard

We went on our first home ed camping trip recently!  It was amazing!  We only went for 3 nights because our youngest is only 16 months and we weren’t sure how he would do camping; however, it was a great success!

We will definitely go next year for the entire week!  We met some amazing home ed families from around the country.  We barely saw the girls as they were playing constantly!  They spent time swimming whenever it wasn’t raining.  It was a good time!

Sewing P

Standard

Lady P has been asking to sew for a while now so I finally decided to teach her a bit on the sewing machine.  I helped her cut out fabric to make a pillow then she sewed the sides herself and turned the fabric right side out.  She stuffed her pillow then hand sewed the opening closed.  She was so proud of herself and always sleeps with her little pillow.

The next week, we made a little dress for her doll.  Because it was so small, she hand sewed the sides and I helped her with the fiddly bits.  I think I have a creative little girl!  She loves creating!

Beach, O’Keeffe and Other Things…

Standard

The last few days have been extremely busy!  On Sunday nights, I create a plan for the week.  I have found that this has worked the best for our routine.  Then, I try to cover most of it throughout the week.  Some things happen on different days than the plan but it doesn’t matter.

On Monday we went to the park again and Lady P went on the BMX track with her bike.  Nobody was there so it was great.  I ended up running around with her so I guess it was a work out for me! Bonus!

As usual, she did her maths and English work, we read, did crafts and played in the garden.  She also goes to swimming lessons.
On Tuesday, we had a ridiculously long and busy day!  The kids went to the beach with daddy while I was at work.  They created beach art and attempted to write ‘at words in the sand.  Lady P couldn’t understand that she had to hold the stick different from a pencil so she kept getting frustrated.
Later she had gymnastics and did work in between all our comings and goings.

Today we were looking after our little friend again. Lady P did an amazing water colour of a Georgia O’Keeffe close-up of a flower.

She is loving all things art related! She also did her reading lesson and maths lesson and we continued reading the BFG.  Phew! I’m exhausted!

Today

Standard

My husband and kids have all been ill the past few weeks and I’ve got it now!  I’m missing the new  Star Wars tonight because I get horrible coughing fits at inopportune moments!

I was getting antsy and wanted to do some schooling today, even though I’m sick as a dog! We started with painting.  The girls painted trees with black tempera paint and when they dry, they will colour in the white spaces with oil pastels.

Next, they made flowers using watery paint and blowing it with straws.  They love painting.

After this, we did some number work.  Lady P did some adding and sorting in her workbooks and Cheeky Girl did some Montessori activities.  I’m quite impressed with her actually!  She knows more than I thought! She’s obviously been listening when I teach Lady P!  She can probably do algebra!

Later we are reading Hansel and Gretal and making a gingerbread house from scratch…our first one!  The collapse might be great!!!

Autumn Unit

Standard

We are continuing with our Autumn unit as the weather holds up. We headed to the woods near our house to collect leaves and take pictures.  The girls love walking during autumn (particularly Lady P who hates bugs).  We had a great conversation about plants and how they make oxygen (air) from the carbon dioxide (bad air) we breathe out.  Lady P thought it was great learning big words.    Next, we found a little clearing and I sat down and began to make a little house for critters.  Lady P took interest in this only after I said the spiders needed a warm house for the winter.  Considering she’s petrified of insects, she didn’t like the idea of them freezing to death so she helped me build.  Cheeky Girl made trees.   This lasted a good 15 minutes.  Then they ran around at Mach 5.  Lady P did a ‘show’ on a stump and then they jumped off stumps while I filmed them in slow motion. They thought it was hilarious and kept wanting me to do it again.

It was such a wonderful morning.  No pressure or reason to tell my kids off.  We definitely needed to unwind and spend quality time together! Afterwards, we headed home.  We shall make some Autumn crafts tomorrow.

Autumn Is Here

Standard

I am creating an Autumn unit in my head, and doing activities with my girls focussing on the Fall season. (I say, in my head, because I am so disorganised and can’t seem to follow a routine).

My two youngest were sick at home with daddy while Lady P and I went for a stroll.  We picked up leaves and brought them home.  I drew an outline of a hedgehog on their paper and Lady P cut hers out while I helped Cheeky Girl.  Then they glued down leaves for the hedgehog prickles.  The result was lovely!  The fall leaves are bright and beautiful.

Lady P wrote the word hedgehog on her paper and Cheeky Girl made marks, trying to write hedgehog.  This activity took about 10 minutes.  Tomorrow they will colour the face.

Lady P Officially Starts Reception

Standard

We have been trying to spend the last remaining nice days outside before the British Winter/Rain begins. ┬áIt’s been surprisingly mild and dry so that’s pretty exciting.

Summer School

Standard

My parents are visiting and we are enjoying whatever sunshine this coastal city can offer!

We have enjoyed the beach several times over the past three weeks.

We headed to the sand dunes one morning.  It looked like we lived in a desert, the sea is so far away!

We had a family worship night with friends and enjoyed a bit of creation and fellowship on the beach!
Grandma and Grandpa enjoyed the sunset and the tide coming in.
We also spent the day at the beach enjoying the sand, kite flying and getting extremely dirty (my washing machine is full of sand).  We are creating wonderful memories!

It’s also the season of parties!  We went to a circus party!  The girls got dressed up as acrobats and enjoyed the bouncy castle!

We also headed to the Maize Maze at a local farm.  There was ride on tractors, a trampoline, a playground and of course, the maze (not pram friendly).

Our summer is going so well! We also get to go on holiday soon! Looking forward to more adventures and memory-making moments!
