Montessori Constructive Triangles

Standard

Everyone has some sort of illness in this house so not much is being done. However, we managed a couple of activities! Lady P continued with Singapore maths. She’s finding it challenging but I know once she understands the basics, future maths will be easier!

She is currently practicing adding and subtracting using ones and tens. She can do it using her snap cubes but when it comes to writing it down, it can be confusing! But we shall persevere!

Cheeky girl tried the constructive triangles today and enjoyed using them.

I think she enjoyed the hands on maths! She also learned how to add using snap cubes! I was quite pleased for her.

Although we didn’t do much, they seemed to do well with the activities.

What did we do?

Standard

The first week I’m self-employed and home with my children has been incredibly busy but so worth it!  The kids have thrived and been really interested in learning!  I sent Cheeky Girl to nursery Monday and Tuesday but she wanted to stay home today.  I think she’s torn between going to nursery and being home!  She enjoys nursery but hates being the only one gone!

Well I kept her home and she was wonderful!  I made sure I spent some 1-to-1 time with her and she wasn’t as challenging as she normally is! Three year olds are tough little dictators!

So here is our week so far in pictures!

 At the play place.

Building her bead stair then practicing her teen numbers.

Studying her sight words, learning about Henri Matisse and doing her own paper cut-out picture.

Doing some extension work for the pink tower and brown stair, practicing numbers and counting by putting together a puzzle.

Learning about Abigail and David in the Bible, practicing matching numbers to items and doing addition and subtraction problems.

I discovered little Man is addicted to puzzles! He wants to take the pieces out and attempts to put them back.

All this plus swimming, gymnastics, park visits, and seeing friends! It’s been a good first official week!

Lady P Officially Starts Reception

Standard

We have been trying to spend the last remaining nice days outside before the British Winter/Rain begins.  It’s been surprisingly mild and dry so that’s pretty exciting.

Story Writing For Pre-writers

Standard

I came across a really good Montessori activity that I thought I could do with Lady P, on the spur of the moment. Lately, my life is chaos and survival is the name of this game! The kids get sick, my hubby gets sick, I get sick and repeat! I have 7 weeks left of my pregnancy and I need an easy life. Read the rest of this entry

Daddy Homeschool

Standard

Today I had to work so hubby homeschooled Lady P. I have 1 more day until I finish for maternity leave and I’m so tired I can see through time! Needless to say, it’s all about survival these days (and trying not to lose my rag). Being pregnant and having a toddler and preschool age child is extremely tiring but I’m not complaining (or trying not to 😉 and WHY are girls so loud? Can anyone tell me? Maybe it’s just my kids because they got my loud gene (I seem to remember my mum telling me to be quiet a lot ha). Read the rest of this entry

DIY Montessori Constructive Triangles

Standard

I’m finally feeling super motivated to get all my Montessori projects finished for Lady P. It is probably because I am pregnant and rather than clean my house, my nesting is causing me to finish tasks. Works for me! Read the rest of this entry

DIY Montessori Moveable Alphabet

Standard

I love Montessori manipulatives. They are so beautiful but so expensive! I especially wanted a moveable alphabet because I think it really helps children to understand how words are made: patterns, letter combinations etc. A small moveable alphabet costs about £27 (not including shipping or the storage box) from Absorbant Minds but I really don’t want to spend that kind of money!

Two Rocks and a Chunk of Dirt

Standard

Summer Holidays. I’m a teacher so I’ve got the entire summer off but I’ve been incredibly lazy with regards to homeschooling; but we’ve been out and about a lot– especially at the beach!

Today while not-so-Baby S was napping, I got out the Spielgaben for some free play (I suspect I wanted to play with it more than Lady P).

My goal for the summer is for Lady P to recognise her teen numbers and count up to 20 accurately. She still skips a few. We have been working on 11-13 for now.

She is easily distracted but can count items accurately up to 13 so I was quite pleased.

Next, we did lacing and and tried our creative side with making pictures. There is a curriculum that goes with the Spielgaben but it takes preparation and I’m super lame this summer!!!

Lastly, I found a game at a charity shop called Blokus. It’s great for Lady P because she has to try to figure out how all of the shapes fit together. I can see the wheels turning in her head as she tries to put the pieces together without leaving spaces. I never told her to leave no spaces, she tried this on her own.

At the end of the day, both girls played in the garden. They decided to play with a tarp, two rocks, and a lump of dirt. I guess I’m too far removed from childhood to understand why they played for AGES with these items! But hey, toys are so expensive I guess they are saving me money!!! So I guess for a lazy day, we accomplished quite a bit!
